Energy Transfer’s New Ad is a Lighthearted Look at Natural Gas in Everyday Life

“That’s gas!” If you’re hip enough to be familiar with the current slang among young people (or, more likely, if you’re a parent of a teenager), you know this term refers to something considered amazing or interesting. It’s essentially, “that’s cool.”

Energy Transfer’s lighthearted new TV commercial plays on the double meaning of the phrase. If you’re a golf fan, you may have seen its debut on Sunday around the green jacket ceremony at the end of The Masters.  The spot features a narrator who pops into scenes of everyday moments to explain, in hilarious fashion, how most of the products we use are derived from natural gas and oil.

“Girl, that fit is gas,” says a young woman to her friend trying on a new jacket.

“Well, yes. It’s polyester, which is made from natural gas and oil. So, it is gas. Literally,” the narrator says to the befuddled ladies. He talks to disbelieving skateboarders, sunbathers, and bus riders that everything they are using is made from natural gas and oil.

And on it goes as he presents a laundry list of random everyday items: yarn, a bicycle tire, an umbrella, a pickle ball and racket, a toothbrush – even grass (get it? Turf grass).

And in a fun twist, the ad ties to golf at the end. A spectator explains how almost everything golfers use is made from natural gas and oil – golf balls, clubs, shirts, shoes, etc.

“Finally! She gets it!” the narrator exclaims at the exact moment of a golfer’s backswing (yikes!)

Indeed, more and more people are starting to understand how vital natural gas and oil are to the way we live – 96% of the products we use come from natural gas and oil.

So, please enjoy our new commercial. We think you’ll agree – it’s gas!
